A Grade
Uni 12.8 - 80 def by Nth Beach 15.6 - 96
On ANZAC day Uni went down to last year's A Grade Premiers, Nth Beach at Charles Riley Reserve in game 2. After a tense last quarter when Uni kicked 4 unanswered goals to get to 5 pts down with 4 minutes to play, an off the ball incident saw Nth Beach awarded a free kick 20 meters out directly in front which effectively ended any chance of Uni snatching what would have been a hard fought victory against the winners of the last 5 A Grade Premierships. A soft goal in the last 10 sec's flattered Nth Beach on the scoreboard.
After a good start kicking into the breeze when we held Nth Beach to a 1 goal advantage at qtr time, Nth Beach threw everything they had at us in a strong second quarter when they kicked 6 goals straight to 2 goals 4pts by Uni. Outscoring an undisciplined Nth Beach kicking into the wind in the 3rd term we gave ourselves a chance in the last but in spite of the heroic last quarter it wasn't to be.
Many played well including new recruit Grabbaz (BOG), Shane Fleay, Hoggy, Breeny, Senior and Mumf - good games also came from Stewy, Wazza, Mayo and Juddy who all worked tirelessly. Great first A Grade games also to Bulle, Coops and The Boss who kicked 3 goals playing his first game for Uni.
In what is shaping up to be a very even competition, our first win is just around the corner as we take on TA at McGillivray this Saturday.

After a great win last week it was going to be a challenge re-creating that form against a north beach team full of confidence. The oval looked more like a beach than an oval with yellow sand the flavour of the day. Uni started very strongly in Q1 and couldn't put their dominance on the score board kicking 1.5 for the quarter (two also not making the distance and one not making it over the mark) from about 15 inside 50's whilst north beach kicked a lucky goal from their 5 inside 50's. The game tightened up after quarter time with no team able to score in near perfect conditions with only 9 goals score in the day.
The Uni boys let themselves down with their finishing in front of goal and delivery inside 50, which was the story of the day. At three quarter time kicking with a slight breeze Uni looked like the eventual winner and with 2 minutes to go James Caldow put Uni in front by a point. However whilst icing the clock north beach managed to turn the ball over and go forward and kick a goal from the boundary in the dying seconds to steal the win.
Some highlights of the day included two screamers from Rory Avis-Foster and James Caldow. Best Players were Alex Trombetta, Jack Lucas, Will Higham, Pete "troll wrestler" McGinnity, Stu McGuckin and Darcy Thompson in his first game. With TA's also looking like a good team the boys have a lot of work to do this week and are looking forward to a good contest.
E Grade
E Grade lined up with a solid team to take on North Beach at home. On a perfect day for football the boys were genuinely fired up for a good hit out before the game. This was reflected in our first quarter where, despite kicking against a three to four goal breeze we were able to keep North Beach to one goal and kick one ourselves. Ads was playing well in the middle, getting plenty of it and performing the one percenters, while Mozza was providing a roaming target across half forward and up the ground.
The second quarter was a tight affair; despite kicking with the breeze we could only kick two goals for the quarter, while North Beach kicked three. We went in at half time a goal down with the game there for the taking. The old adage that the third quarter is the premiership quarter rang true in this game with North Beach using the wind to pile on four goals to our one. North Beach gained some midfield ascendancy in this quarter and if it wasn't for the efforts of our backline they could have been further in front at three quarter time. As it was they went in five goals up. We also lost Walks and Witty to injury and Easy went down with a knee injury which left us with 19 men for the rest of the game.
The last quarter saw another four goals kicked by North Beach and Uni only managing one to finish the game at 12.12 to 5.4
A disappointing game, but match fitness seemed to play a part with a number of guys playing their first game of the season. Injuries on the day also didn't help. Better players were Ads in the middle and on the ball, Robbie W with run deep from defence, Mozza provided a target all day and continued to gain possessions when thrown to centre half back in the last. Anton put his body on the line all game and Harry M did his best to lift the team with his attack on the ball in the second half.
Dingoes
Uni 15.5 95 Def North Beach 7.6 48
A huge build up to this game with three of the dingoes' favourite sons playing their 100th game. Cat, Stix and Linga will be three deserving names on the 100 club board, all playing the majority of their footy for the mighty Dingoes. The day started with the three crashing through the traditional banner which read; "300 Games in Uni Colours - Lets Teach the Beach for 3 Great Fullas."
The build up perhaps took something away from our early focus with the new look (younger) North Beach side dominating the play early, kicking with the aid of the couple of goal breeze. Uni settled in the second half of the quarter to end the first with scores fairly level. After the early onslaught from North Beach, Uni were rarely challenged besides an early charge in the third quarter which was quickly quelled by the Cat after being moved to CHB. Uni ran away to a comfortable 8 goal win.
Vote getters on the day were Franko who dominated in the clearances, Philthy who's game included a vicious sling tackle of a 45kg boy right in front of the crowd, Brounie who was sent to the backline after an early goal, Cat who dominated in the ruck all day, Bully who kicked 5 snaggers and was asked if he was "the guy playing his 300th" by the umpire after looking proppy late in the game, and Stix who was his usual self from half back, setting up many forward movements and directing play. Major goal kickers were Bully with 5 and Franko with 3. Two wins from two games now so a great start by the Dingoes with the unknown TA's next week.
C Colts
Following a close lost to collegians last week we were keen to take it out on north beach who had won in the first round. The game started evenly before uni pulled away in the first qtr to hold a small lead at qtr time, in a sign of things to come our kicking at goal was the only reason we didn't hold a much greater ascendancy. The boys provided the strong running that we asked from them as we looked to run north beach off their legs. The midfield showed good discipline in holding out of our 50 enabling us to apply tremendous forward pressure.
The second qtr was more of the same, inaccurate kicking and hard running. However despite the close score at half time we knew we were beginning to get on top as north beach began to tire. Jimmy C showed courage in coming back into the game after a heavy knock to the head. beau vaux showed a lot of dash across the back flanks and along with hookey released the pressure well with disciplined kicking out of the back lines. braggy was impressive in the forward pocket as he continued to build on last week. wes l was providing good options along the centre half forward line as did the b - rock with strong leads up the guts. the smac attack continued to provide a leading target in the fifty for us.
The third qtr was the toughest of the game as north beach threatened to punish us for our inaccurate kicking, however we fought back and continued to run hard and look to punish north beach on the rebound. jake c played strongly at full back in a very disciplined approach, housey continued to play well at CHB. with uni holding a single figure margin at the break we were confident as north beach looked to be out on their feet and we were to have the wind in our backs in the last.
The last qtr began well as we put quick goals on the board. the usual suspects were all over it as the twins continued their great form, stash rowe continued to give us 4 solid qtrs in the ruck. brommey was brilliant all over the grounds and tyson and johnny r teamed up well. Great teamwork and hard running enabled us to win somewhat comfortably in the end as the final score was UFC 7.17 59 to NB 6.4 40

The final score showed the dominance that we displayed across the ground and also our terrible kicking in front of goals. The S-Mac attack would have got votes if he had kicked straighter than 3.7. A comprehensive team effort that saw a balance in structure found that was at times lacking against collegians.
