MATCH REPORTS
A Grade
Uni 11.13 - 79 def by Collegians 15.11 - 101

Uni went down to a beefed up Collegians (the B Grade 2008 Premiers) at home in game 1. A slow start, and 2 goals by the visitors in the last 3 mins of qtr 1 proved costly with Uni trailing by 6 goals at qtr time. From then on the boys worked hard to get themselves back into the game in the second qtr and then to grind Collegians down in the second half. Trailing by 6 goals at 3/4 time but with the momentum definately shifting Uni's way the boys got to within 2 goals with 6 minutes to play. But a steadying goal to Collegians helped them get over the line with Uni having given themselves too much to do in the second half.

We showed ourselves a fitter side but the slow start, variable skill levels at times and some missed chances proved costly. On the positive side the boys never gave up and we can take confidence into next weeks game from the second half when we outscored Collegians by 4 or 5 goals and had more than double the number of inside 50 entries. Next weeks game is against A Grade 2008 Premiers North Beach - thanks to the WAAFL for a nice easy start!

Many played well in the second half but good 4 quarter efforts were provided by Shane Fleay (in his debut game for the UFC), Hoggy, Breeny, Mumf and Jonesy.

After the worst preparation possible due to the week off uni and making 6 changes due to the infamous UWA Saturday morning accounting exam the coaches were very nervous before the Game. However due to the large depth the player group has for 2009 we were able to field a very good side and play 25 players. The first quarter was a physical encounter with the teams kicking goal for goal as both teams tried to settle into a rhythm. Sarge kicked the first goal of the 2009 campaign with a soccer from the boundary which rubbed salt into the wounds of collegians as they tried to poach him pre season. The second quarter is where the Uni boys got on top of collegians pulling away to an 18 point lead by the main break, which was not reflective to the amount of possession Uni had. The third quarter the boys snuffed out any chance of a collegians comeback extending the lead to 5 goals by the last change. This remained the winning margin as the goal kicking went (Brophy-Williams) and although dominating the quarter again we managed too only kick 6 points. Best players for the day included Caldow presenting all day at CHF, Jack Lucus , Steve Eyres, Blake Dunfeild and Stu McGukin all playing various jobs through defence. It was a great team win with everyone contributing and it sets the standard for how we have to play for the rest of the season.
North Beach managed to beat the highly fancied North Freo in colts on the w/e so it will prove another hard contest with our first game away from home. Special thanks to Jammers for sponsoring the colts, Ned and Burner for doing boundary umpiring. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the colts please get in contact.
E Grade
The E Grade side took on arch rival Wembley is a much awaited round 1 clash. With only 5 players from last year's finals side the E Grade side certainly had a new feel about it. Uni started well and put on four goals to 1 by quarter time. Big Witty was plucking grabs at will at full forward, with Two Dads and his look-a-like Denty were dominating in the middle. Uni extended the lead to 5 goals at half time with some slick mid field work and a very solid back six lead by Spider at centre half back. The 3rds quarter saw Uni drop its intensity and missing a number of very easy goals which resulted the margin being trimmed back to 12 points at ¾ time. With the game back on the line the boys responded well and finished strongly with a 4 goals to nil last quarter to run out winners by 32 points. Best players included Denty in the mid field, Rhys Moore who played almost everywhere, Killer who rucked most of the day and then finished off with two goals in the last quarter and finally the big German Wittwer who finished the day with 3 goals. Next week we have North Beach at home and with plenty of numbers a large selection of players to choose from.
E Reserves
Saturday 18th of April. Wembley are on the field and according to their coach are "cherry ripe". That would be a snack size cherry ripe, and only the wrapper at that. The dingoes, on the other hand, being a pack of savage hunters quickly dismissed the cherry ripe wrapper as a hoax and went about their business with a quick flurry of snagger rolls. The all star backline yet again let nothing through to the keeper as the guys in the guts fed it to Buddy, Dunstall, Abblett, and Matera. Wembley had a crack , and managed to slip it through the backline while cat had his back turned, and his tape measure out, and kicked a snagger. But it couldn't stop the five or so the dingoes piled on, this was repeated in the second, and the third, and things just got worse for Wembley as the dingoes started to play according to coach connelly's dual premiership game plan, while Willie (the boom recruit) J was climbing on shoulders in the goal square, Stralo got his tatts out and got sent off for going the biff..tick, tick, tick, tick tatts
Adding salt to the wound, occasionally well respected all rounder and senior member of the dingoes fraternity Mr John Lawton went the double fist-pump as he put through the twentieth goal right on the siren. Bravo John, bravo!
Scores were Uni 20. 8 128 Wembley 4. 3 27

Week 2 News

OPENNING DAY - 50 / 50
A mixed bag for the football club over the weekend with 3 wins and 3 losses. A Grade and A Reserves went down by 22 and 21 points respectively, both games were mirror images whereby they allowed Collegians to get the early jump and establish a margin that proved too big to reel back. The A colts played a great brand of football and the senior sides can learn from this as they had a sensational win by 31 points. The E grade and Dingoes both had solid victories over Wembley to start their campaigns. The C colts showed good signs in their narrow 20 point loss to Collegians. For a full wrap see match reports below.
THIS WEEK NORTH BEACH
This weekend all sides play North Beach with the A stream heading to Charles Riley and the E grade, Dingoes and C colts at home. They are all massive games this week against the powerhouse club of the last decade. North Beach are the reigning A grade premiers and Uni will have to be at their best to take up the challenge and snare the points from North Beach! It is time for the boys to teach the beach!
NEW SPONSORS - OLD BRIDGE CELLARS AND FLEET NETWORK ON BOARD
It is with great pleasure that I announce that Old Bride Cellars and Fleet Network have signed up as sponsors of Uni. We would encourage all members and supporters to please support these two businesses as it will result in much needed additional funding for the club.

Week 1

Well we have arrived, the warm ups are now complete and we are ready for the main race and boys are pumped and can't wait for the season to kick off!
Round 1
This week see the A stream sides and the both colts sides go head to head with Collegians in the Western Suburbs Derby and bragging rights down Bay View Terrace for the next 9 weeks at least! Collegians have been promoted from B grade after dominating the grade in 2008. They will definitely be up to the mark in A grade which will ensure a cracking game at McGillvray this Saturday.
The thirds and Dingoes are up against traditional rivals Wembley at Henderson Park in what are always close encounters. The Dingoes are looking to defend their premiership and make it a hat trick and we wish them well.
